Vacation Rental Villa House of Orange at Watersong Resort, trip to Tarpon Springs and Dunedin, Pinellas Trail
Dagtrip met overnachting vanaf onze vakantie villa House of Orange, Watersong Resort, Davenport, Florida

Stond al langer op onze bucket list, fietstocht langs de Pinellas Trial die loopt van Tarpon Springs tot helemaal aan St. Petersburg.
Jawel hoor, een winkeltje met Hollandse drop.
Eerst naar Tarpon Springs gereden om de zaak te verkennen. Op zoek naar een onderkomen via Google Maps een hotel in Dunedin gevonden. Best Western Plus Yacht Harbor Inn direct aan het water van de Golf van Mexico. Gewoon binnen gelopen en om de 'walk-in rate' gevraagd en gekregen. Altijd beter tegenwoordig dan via de boefjes van Booking.com, Expedia, Hotwire en hoe ze allemaal mogen heten. #bookdirect.
Dunedin, pittoresk plaatsje met boutiques, restaurants, bars en direct gelegen aan de Pinellas Trial.

Zicht op ons hotel in DunedinTarpon Springs
Even voorbij Tarpon Springs kwamen wij voorbij een parkje met strandje en heerlijk uitzicht op de zee. Daar hebben wij een half uurtje gerecreeerd.
  Eerste dag Dunedin
Daarna door naar ons hotel in Dunedin. Heerlijk genoten van het plaatsje en wat gegeten bij Chic-A-Boom-Room. Blijkt Dunedin ook een groot aantal micro brouwerijen te hebben. Ons hotel ligt direct aan het water, en wij hebben heerlijk van de zonsondergang genoten.
   Fietstocht van Dunedin naar Tarpon Springs met afsteker naar Honeymoon Island.
Zo, nu gaat het gebeuren. Het weer is ideaal. Graadje of 25, strak blauwe hemel en weinig wind. Fietsen geprepareerd en op naar de Pinellas Trail even verderop in Dunedin.

De Pinellas Trial Brug was helaas nog gesloten vanwege de schade na Irma
Heerlijk gefietst, eerst naar Tarpon springs. Oud vissersplaatsje waar veel Griekse emigranten zich gesetteld hebben i.v.m. de spons visserij.
Terug fietsen van Tarpon Springs naar Dunedin via Honeymoon Island
Er is een brugverbinding van het vasteland naar Honeymoon Island, en die wilde wij zeker ook gezien hebben.
Het fiets/voetpad over de brug is ietwat smal, maar filmen en fietsen ging wel.
Daarna weer terug naar Dunedin
Het waren een tweetal fantastische dagen, en wij gaan nu weer inpakken en terug naar ons vakantiehuis House of Orange, Watersong Resort, Davenport, Florida.
Deze koddige pelikaan kwam ook afscheid van ons nemen
En deze dolfijn ook.
Nu lekker relaxen in onze vakantie villa House of Orange met eigen privé zwembad en jacuzzi. Zo prachtig gelegen in Watersong Resort.

Review of House of Orange at Watersong Resort near Orlando, Florida

Just spent 2 weeks at House of Orange and cannot recommend enough! Situated in a semi rural part of Orlando in a gated community, close to I4 (your route to everywhere!). House of Orange is furnished to a high standard. The pool area is very inviting, it is extremely private and not overlooked, you will not find white plastic pool furniture but beautiful wicker furniture with soft pads. The interior design is stylish and of a high standard and the beds are comfortable with high quality mattresses. The villa is equipped with everything you have at home. We dealt with the owners directly and found that they were very helpful and responded quickly. Book this villa and you will be happy to return there at the end of a busy day out - if you want to leave for a day out at all!

One of the top 10 North-American road trips
Big Bend Scenic Byway, Florida. Day trip from our vacation / Holiday rental villa House of Orange at Watersong Resort near Orlando, Cental Florida.
Distance: 121 miles from St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge to Apalachicola
Weaving through national forestland and then along the Gulf Coast, this Florida byway is packed with photo ops and all sorts of wildlife. Comprised of a Forest Trail and a Coastal Trail, it is a unique journey that will take you through two very different ecosystems and plenty of classic Florida sights.
Drive slowly and watch out for wild hogs, bobcats, and snakes along these rural roads. Your first stop in St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge might even yield a spotting of the endangered West Indian manatee or leatherback turtle. Continue along the Forest Trail to Lake Talquin State Forest, where bald eagles and gopher tortoises live in the rolling uplands and swamps. As you head back south to the Apalachicola River Wildlife and Environmental Area, the most thriving longleaf-pine and wire-grass ecosystem in the United States, take a moment to look out your window as the Forest Trail cuts a stunning swath through Florida's woodland riches.
The drive along Apalachicola Bay's Coastal Trail begins a change in scenery from forests to salt marshes, beaches, and dunes. Before ending your journey in Apalachicola, cross the Bryant Patton Bridge for a day trip on St. George Island, a 28-mile barrier island that rewards with uncrowded white-sand beaches, pristine marshes, and some of the freshest oysters you'll ever eat.
